QuarterMates started on a beer coaster in Jachtclub Scheveningen and grew into this endeavour to take the confusion out of crew management.
It was a Sunday's Ijspegel race out of Scheveningen. Seven crew confirmed. Two didn't show. One had the wrong Sunday, one had quietly unconfirmed with a thumbs-down emoji that nobody spotted.
We sailed shorthanded and finished last. Post-race, sitting in the clubhouse over some bitterballen, the question formed: why is crew management still so hard?
Every skipper seems to have their own way of managing crew. Some use Google sheets to manage the season, and turn to WhatsApp for crew comms. Others rely on a mix of phone calls, Doodle polls, and smoke signals. The common thread: it's all a bit of a mess. The need is obvious. Nobody had built the right thing yet. Something made specifically for how club racing actually works.
So we built it.
